Update to Illinois Vehicle Code
The
Illinois Legislature amended the Illinois Vehicle Code to require all drivers to physically stop their vehicles to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk where there is no traffic signal, rather than just slowing down or only stopping if need be. In other words, drivers must now come to a complete stop, rather than just slowing down.
Another update from your elected legislators: The Illinois Vehicle Code provides an additional criminal penalty to reckless drivers. If a driver is convicted for reckless driving or speeding in excess of 40 mph, the courts are empowered to assess an additional criminal penalty for each emergency response related to the conviction.
